Terms: Search Engine - XML

  • Search Engine
    A search engine is generically a piece of software running from a domain (such as Google.com). The search engine stores a database of web sites it has indexed using its bots or spiders. Using the data it has collected, the search engine searches the recorded information for the closest matches based on keywords.
  • SHTTP
    Not a suggested form of security or protection, SHTTP is a protocol with the understanding of security at a document (single web page) level - instead of using a SSL solution which is server or domain based.

  • SQL
    Structured Querie Language is a specialized programming language designed to querie relational databases. SQL queries can read, write and modify the contents of a database by selecting, inserting or updating he table rows in a database.
  • SSI
    SSI or Server Side Includes is a method of joining multiple HTML or text documents using specialized code within an HTML comment tag.
  • SSL
    When using a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) you will normally see the protocol in the URL box switch to HTTPS. SSL is the encryption process requiring a private key and is used when accepting form data or sensitive information or private documents.
  • Up-Time
    The total amount of time a server is operational - or can be expected to be operational. When a server is not operational it is in down-time. All hosts strive for 99.999% uptime.
  • URL
    The Uniform Resource Locater (URL) it the web address of a web site. For example: http://www.envisionwebhosting.com is the URL of this web site and tells web servers the location of web site.
  • Web Control Panel
    The user interface for a web hosting account allowing a user access to emails, server or website settings and site statistics.
  • XML
    A lesser version or model of SGML, XML (Extensible Markup Language) is a uniform method for transferring information and data between systems and websites. Normally linked to the XML document is a style sheet or schema which both explain to a computer or programmer, how to interpret the information.
